Although the Department of Education's funding is primarily devoted to grant actions (almost $100 billion), it has over 4000 employees, and spends over $800 million annually on contracts.

  A substantial portion of that spending level is for IT services and systems that support the department's management and program activities. Across the spectrum there are a wide variety of opportunities for small business.

  Dr. Wilson-Hill has been ED's Small Business Director since March of 2005. She is a retired US Army officer, and has considerable experience in Federal and privately-funded research activities. She has coordinated the department's SBIR program and been a frequent author and presenter of scientific papers. Over the last 15 years she has mentored many amputees and been a motivational speaker and role model for disabled veterans and women with disabilities.
