Making Faces
Laura Palmer Edwards | Painter, Printmaker, Digital Artist

*On display at Haley House Bakery Café beginning Monday September 19th

*Opening Reception on Saturday, October 1st, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm

Making Faces is a collection of abstracted paintings, mono and giclée prints on canvas and paper capturing a menagerie of faces—faces reflecting the world gone haywire. The reactions of everyday folk are revealed in facial expressions, sometimes distorted, and often grossly amplified. The backgrounds from which these faces peer out are complex, colorful and the antithesis to the “power-full” expressions of resignation, obstinate acceptance, defiance, disbelief and dismay at the level of dysfunction in our world.

"These faces share a range of emotions and expressions from disbelief and disgust to detachment and concern about what’s happening in our world, in our human relationships”, says Ms. Palmer Edwards about her latest body of work. Additional work is available on her website: bit.ly/lpeart

As an artist, Palmer Edwards is interested in exploring new media, mono-printmaking, collage and painting. She is also a writer and PR veteran and recently joined the staff of Discover Roxbury as Media Manager. She has studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and was named a Medici Scholar, and holds a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Her works hang in numerous private and institutional collections in the U.S. and abroad, including Wellesley College, The Denver Post Newspaper, and in the private collection of Edmund Barry Gaither, noted art scholar and curator of the National Museum of African American Artists in Boston.

Ms. Palmer Edwards will be present at the café throughout Roxbury Open Studios Weekend on Saturday and Sunday October 1st and 2nd from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. Please stop by to meet her and view her work. The public and other ROS artists are invited to join us for a free opening reception for Making Faces on Saturday, October 1st from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Haley House Bakery Café. Light refreshments will be provided.
