Professional Enhancement Activities for Teachers and Principals Supported
Department of Education
The Supporting Effective Educator Development Grant Program provides support to recruit, select, and provide professional enhancement activities for teachers and principals. Proposed projects will include teacher and principal recruitment, selection, and preparation; professional development for teachers of English language arts, with a specific focus on writing; and advanced certification and advanced credentialing. Preference will be given to projects that improve productivity and support programs, practices, or strategies for which there is strong evidence of effectiveness. The letter of intent deadline is October 11, 2011. The application deadline is November 7, 2011.
Sub-Grants for Environmental Education Projects
Environmental Protection Agency
The Environmental Education Sub-Grants Program provides support for efforts to increase public awareness and knowledge about environmental issues and provide participants in environmental education (EE) projects with the skills necessary to make informed environmental decisions and to take responsible actions toward the environment. Proposed activities must address at least one educational priority and one EPA strategic environmental priority. Educational priorities include capacity building, educational advancement, community projects, human health and the environment, EE teaching skills, and career development. EPA strategic environmental priorities include taking action on climate change, improving air quality, assuring the safety of chemicals, cleaning up communities, protecting America’s waters, expanding the conversation on environmentalism and working for environmental justice, and building strong state and tribal partnerships. The application deadline is November 8, 2011.
H-1B Technical Skills Training Funds for Employers
Department of Labor
The H-1B Technical Skills Training Grants Program provides support for the provision of education, training, and job placement assistance in the occupations and industries for which employers are using H-1B visas to hire foreign workers, and the related activities necessary to support such training. On-the-job training projects serving all participants and those that use other training strategies are eligible for support, including training for occupations in the health care industry and training designed to serve long-term unemployed individuals.The application deadline is November 17, 2011.
Support for Conservation Measures to Ensure Sustainability of Museum Collections
National Endowment for the Humanities
The Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections Program provides support for preventive conservation measures that mitigate deterioration and prolong the useful life of collections. Preventive conservation measures include managing relative humidity, temperature, light, and pollutants in collection spaces; providing protective storage enclosures and systems for collections; and safeguarding collections from theft and from natural and man-made disasters. Support is provided in the planning and implementation categories to help cultural institutions to develop sound preventive conservation projects that meet the complex challenge of preserving large and diverse holdings of humanities materials for future generations. The application deadline is December 1, 2011.
