Federal Grant and Loan Programs

Preservation Technology and Training Grants
Department of the Interior
The Preservation Technology and Training Grants Program provides support for innovative projects that advance science and technology for historic preservation. Examples of projects eligible for support include laboratory or field research that explores or assesses novel or adaptive methods; training activities, including workshops, and course or curriculum development that promote the use of new or adaptive technologies; documentation using new methods; manuscript or website development that disseminates innovative preservation technologies; and meetings that convene experts to discuss the use of technologies to address preservation problems. The application deadline is October 17, 2011.

Solar Energy Optimization Pilot Projects Supported
Department of Energy
SUNPATH, Part II of the PV Manufacturing Initiative, provides support for demonstrations structured to ensure that the most innovative and lowest cost photovoltaic (PV) technologies are manufactured in the U.S. while also developing replicable PV modules that are at least 15% lower in cost per watt than the current market leading technology. Proposed projects must facilitate the first industrial scale manufacturing of a new PV technology designed to meet the target cost of $1/watt by 2020 and must contain a vigorous domestic manufacturing component. The application deadline is October 28, 2011.

Funds for Supportive Housing Projects
Department of Housing and Urban Development
The Supportive Housing Program provides support for transitional housing, permanent housing, supportive services not in conjunction with supportive housing, safe havens, and innovative supportive housing designed to serve homeless individuals and their families. Permanent housing projects will serve homeless disabled individuals and their families only. Eligible project activities include the following: acquisition, rehabilitation, new construction, leasing, operating costs, supportive services, and homeless management information systems. Selection priority will be given to new housing projects located in 100% rural areas, with potential additional points awarded to those areas qualifying as extremely high need communities. The application deadline is October 28, 2011.

Rural Health Network Development Planning Efforts Funded
Department of Health and Human Services
The Rural Health Network Development Planning Grant Program provides support for initiating collaborative partnerships with the goal of creating strong rural health care networks that will help strengthen the health care infrastructure in the community. Proposed planning activities should lay the foundation of a community health project and include the following components: community health or provider needs assessments, development of business operation or strategic plans, and health information technology readiness assessments. Planning activities will be centered on developing integrated healthcare networks that have the capacity to achieve efficiencies; expand access to, coordinate, and improve the quality of essential health care services; and strengthen the rural health care system as a whole. The application deadline is October 31, 2011.
